From the time it was founded in 1882, First National Bank of Durango has made client privacy a high priority. We have diligently protected your confidential information in many ways over the years, and will continue to do so using state-of-the-art-measures. You can rest easy knowing our corporate focus is the protection of your privacy. When the new Privacy Law took effect, we did not have to institute changes to our policy or practices to be in compliance.

Collection of Nonpublic Personal Information

We collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following sources:

  • Information we receive from you on applications and other forms
  • Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others
  • Information we receive from a consumer-reporting agency

We collect and retain information about you only for specific business purposes, and we will tell you why we are collecting and retaining it upon your request. We use information:

  • To protect and administer your records, accounts and funds
  • To comply with certain laws and regulations
  • To help us design and improve our products and services
  • To understand your financial needs in order to provide you the best quality products and superior service

Disclosure of Nonpublic Personal Information

We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our clients or former clients to anyone (excluding First National Bank of Durango affiliates) or to third parties, unless it is necessary to provide a financial service to you. As allowed by law, nonpublic personal information may be supplied to a third party in order to process a transaction you have requested or to satisfy a requirement by law (e.g. credit bureau, loan application, check orders, investigation of fraudulent activities). Our vendors have agreed to safeguard our confidential information about you and your products and services with us, and must abide by applicable laws. We do not provide account or personal information to any non-affiliate for the purpose of independent telemarketing or direct mail marketing of any non-financial products or services of the companies.

Protecting Your Confidentiality

Internally, First National Bank of Durango limits access to your personal information to those staff members who have a business reason for knowing such information. Our staff is trained on the importance of maintaining client privacy and signs a Confidentiality Agreement at the onset of employment to ensure their compliance. We are serious about maintaining your privacy and take appropriate disciplinary measures to enforce employee privacy responsibilities.

Security of Non-public Personal Information

We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard your non-public personal information. The bank’s automation systems have a complex set of routinely changed passwords, user identifications and terminal identifications that limits each employee’s access to information in the systems to properly carry out job responsibilities. In addition, First National Bank of Durango has a complex system of firewalls surrounding its automation systems to ensure that access by unauthorized persons is prevented. Our technology is routinely tested and updated to ensure our information is secure. Additionally, audit trails have been implemented to ensure that only approved personnel access your personal information.

On the Web

As added security when accessing our web site, our software requires that your browser accept “cookies.” A cookie is a small piece of information which a web server can store on your web browser. Our cookies are deleted when you quit your browser. They cannot be used to obtain data from your hard drive, get your e-mail address or steal sensitive or personal information about you. We have additional security features in place including “watermarking,” security questions, and use pattern analysis.

Maintenance of Information

We have procedures in place to maintain accurate, current and complete information on you and your accounts in accordance with reasonable commercial standards. Additionally, we have dedicated personnel and technology to ensure client records are regularly updated in a timely manner. If you have questions concerning the accuracy of your personal information or need to make changes, please contact us at the bank.

Identity Theft

There is a significant increase in complaints involving unsolicited e-mails directing consumers to phony “customer service” websites or directly asking for customer information. First National Bank of Durango will never request confidential information through e-mail. Please report any such request to the bank at fnbinfo@fnbdurango.com or call 970-247-3020 and ask for the Security Officer.
